Silenced Seeds
A poem by Kelly Mulungi Kavuma, a Ugandan alumna of Cohort 7 of the Advanced Short Course on Advocacy for Reproductive Justice.
“Reproductive justice is rooted in the freedom to choose, the power to speak, and the right to access care without fear or restriction. The Global Gag Rule silences lives, but justice amplifies voices and restores choice.”
In shadows deep, where voices fade,
A rule is cast, a choice betrayed.
Words are silenced, futures torn,
Yet justice waits, though hearts are worn.
A global hand that cuts the thread,
Of knowledge shared, of truths unsaid.
But bodies know their sacred right,
To bloom in fullness, claim the light.
Reproductive dreams, fierce and true,
Belong to those they journey through.
No border, law, or distant voice,
Can own the power of that choice.
Justice is more than silent aid,
It’s freedom, safe, and choices made.
Till every seed can safely grow,
And every truth is free to show.
We rise, resist, and boldly stand,
For rights that bloom in every land.
