Anthony Wesaka

Journalist, The Daily Monitor

Anthony began his journalism career in 2008 with a tabloid newspaper, the Red Pepper. After a stint of about one year, he joined the Daily Monitor newspaper as a court reporter.

Over the years, he has grown from being a freelance reporter to a staff reporter, currently heading the court beat. He also had a stint of one month at the Uganda Radio Network.

Having experience in legal reporting, he has had the opportunity to travel to the Hague, to cover former LRA rebel Dominic Ongwen while he was being tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC), and at the International Court of Justice.

In 2017, he covered the 16th Assembly of State Parties meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York. During the meeting, Uganda’s judge, Solomy Balungi Bossa, was elected to the ICC Bench and I reported about the same in real-time.

The other major professional highlights of his journalism career include; covering several corruption cases involving very high-ranking government officials like former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya, Dr Kizza Besigye, presidential election petitions, and terrorism cases (2010 Kampala twin bombing case).

He has also covered health matters that have legal issues in them, the reason why he sometimes reports about Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues.
